Constitutional Scholar Kobayashi to run in Upper House to end uncontrollable “tyranny” of Abe administration
The world media often reports the military expansionism of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan.
A noted constitutional scholar who has condemned recent security legislation as unconstitutional in a high-profile Diet session is set to run in the summer House of Councilors election and form a political organization “Angry Voice of the People” under the “anti-Abe” banner, targeting swing voters disillusioned with the existing political parties.
Setsu Kobayashi, professor emeritus at Keio University, knows the inner workings of the Abe administration inside out through his over 30-year career as a coach on Constitution to the Diet members of the Liberal Democratic Party.
During a news conference in Tokyo on May 9, Kobayashi stated “The government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe enacted laws that allow Japan to wage war anytime in the world. We’ve decided to fight this election to bring down the Abe administration.”
Kobayashi, inspired by U.S. presidential primary candidate Bernie Sanders, said he would fight to realize politics that prioritize the need of the 99 percent.
In addition to scrapping the security laws, the new political organization will espouse policies to restore freedom of speech, postpone a rise in the consumption tax, end reliance on nuclear energy, and block attempts to destroy the Constitution.
